paper 1 section b what is a media conglomerate? (2 marks) a media conglomerate is a company that owns numerous companies involved in mass media enterprises such as tv, radio, the internet etc. how does ownership shape the content of newspapers? refer the mirror and the times. (8 marks) The Mirror and The Times are owned by different companies. The Mirror being owned by Reach plc means it has a photo-rich tabloid format that has consistently stressed sensational, human-interest, and personal types of stories. Its politically independent stance has enabled it to adopt a 'common man versus bureaucracy' approach to many stories. It was originally intended to be a newspaper for women by Alfred Harmsworth in 1903, which reinforces a stereotype of women enjoying a gossip as this newspaper is a more gossipy type. The Times being owned wholly by News Corp means the newspaper remains a strong independent newspaper which is ruled by tradition. Overall, the type of newspaper company shape...
the page is split between the political story, a puff box promoting the pull out supplement and an advert for a betting service. the headline 'brexit daily mayhem' and the use of the emotive words 'surrender' , 'defeat' and 'chaos' suggest the negotiations for britain leaving the EU are disastrous. the image of May looking very serious anchors the headline - the fact the image is smaller than the rest shows the mirror has little respect or faith in may's abilities. the strapline 'fighting for you' provides solidarity for people confused or worried about the political turmoil of brexit. the cheltenham festival pull-out actually dominates the page - with bright green font and background , combined with an exciting action shot of a horse and rider, it grabs the attention more than the political story. the puff box 'all the tips! all the form!' offers practical advice and the offer of a free bet will also entice the reader. the use of t...
headline - reinforces the anchorage as the star vehicle is clearly inside a car and the headline states 'driven to despair'. also anchors central image by making the defeat of her brexit proposals into something more personal and emotional than political and factual. this is an attempt to narrate what is a quite 'dry' story. it fulfils the news value of 'personalisation' where politicians become characters we may empathise with (even if we don't agree with their political views) central image of star vehicle , theresa may, as brexit was the immediate and most important news story. its a close up photograph of May looking distraught. she has a pained facial expression and dark rings under her eyes which denote high emotions and possible lack of sleep. the smaller headlines above the main offer a bigger picture, the last still focuses on may as an individual.  the 'in the news' stories at the bottom of the page also supply some global context for the ...

what makes black panther a mainstream film? genre: action, superhero, sci-fi, adventure, fantasy→ all popular genres, strong appeal to a wide audience  narrative: black panther changes the formula by developing an afrofuturistic world with Wakanda and tying its antagonists and story to current social issues. instead of avoiding topics some audiences may find uncomfortable, the film asks the questions and aims to answer them. the nations history of isolation is a key plot within the narrative and becomes part of the central conflict. these themes fit perfectly within the marvel structure. the narrative in the final act of black panther promotes a sense of greater purpose, of a narrative reaching conclusions beyond the characters, making a statement on the world as a whole. black panther never loses sight of what makes movies have a lasting impression: a cast of memorable and likeable characters, a fully realised and fascinating world and a style that feels all its own. stars: ...

analysis of my film cover 'eloped' The inspiration behind my TV series poster was a lot of thriller and slightly horror genres. I am intrigued by this genre and I enjoy a lot of concepts taken from these genres. my colour palette consists of red and green mainly, the red lighting in my main image contrasted well with the green text and my secondary images which had green lighting but I decreased the opacity to give it a slightly different look.  My storyline consists of a woman who is in search of her childhood sweetheart but experiences a lot of ups and downs on the way, this is where the thriller side of things come into play, until eventually she meets her true soulmate and they run away and eventually elope. The connotations of elope are secrecy and privacy which fits well with my storyline and genre for this tv series. I did not have a particular font in mind however I liked the idea of the lower-case e on the word eloped as I feel it intrigues the viewer and even in...
