 - films that are widely released in cinemas, often created in Hollywood. typical mainstream films are released in cinemas for a short period of time and are marketed to attract mass audiences and create revenue.

 - a media conglomerate/media institution is a company that owns numerous companies involved in mass media enterprises, such as television, radio, publishing, motion pictures, theme parks or the internet. 

c) explain two features of independent film production. refer to I, Daniel Blake to support points. (6)

 - independent films are produced by smaller production companies. they do not follow the same formula as mainstream films. instead, they vary in style and genre. I, Daniel Blake is a low budget social realist film that was funded by BFI through the national lottery and the BBC. this is typical for independent films and shows how they differ from mainstream films. another feature of independent films is that they are often designed make you think about certain subjects or issues, and feature challenging storylines that are more realistic and less escapist than in studio films. I, Daniel Blake features contemporary social and political issues such as poverty, the welfare system and the work capability assessment. the film portrays a group of traditionally underrepresented characters in Newcastle struggling in poverty to gain benefits and support. issues like these get the audience thinking deeper and may even be relatable for some viewers.
