compare how audiences are positioned by the representations in the save the children advertisement and the water-aid advertisement  in the save the children advertisement children are represented as vulnerable and a message of their innocence is strongly put across as the young child in the advertisement is shown mostly in a negative  light, especially towards the end of the ad to really emphasise her innocence as a young child. similarly, the children in the water-aid ad are represented as innocent however with a more optimistic, peaceful approach. water-aid creates sympathy in an alternative way to the save the children advertisement. both advertisements are attempting to appeal to a western, middle class older generation as that is where the money is at. save the children attempt to do this by guilt tripping the audience. the advertisement is set in the uk, intending to hit home for the viewers and allowing the audience to empathise with the child and put themselve...
riptide - vance joy -indie folk pop genre -low budget, unique style music video -montage editing -- a wide range of contrasting shots juxtaposed (often through hard cut jumps) to convey a large amount of information: -  The editing together of seemingly disparate images invites  audience interpretation  and candidates could consider Eisenstein’s concept of “intellectual montage” where new ideas emerge from the collision  of images and generate new meanings that might not otherwise exist:  For example the sequence where a  male and a female suddenly turn their  heads to look at something off-screen  and the next shot shows a seemingly unrelated pile of dollar bills - consider the  connections  audiences are being asked  to make through this use of montage. Many of these cuts also have a clear  link to the lyrics   themselves and candidates might explore the visual  metaphors and possible significance  of these...
music genre - indie  indie music isn't a definite style of music, but most indie bands are influenced by each other causing a similar sound. the sound is melodic, the instruments are simple but well textured . usually includes a simple but original  guitar riff , another guitar riff layered to complement it, bass doing the same, simple drum beat (but fitting the song well) either a keyboard or violin or something to bring out the underlying melody, and soft vocals, usually well harmonised . the lyrics are powerfully emotional (but not whiney). they spark emotion but they don't talk about how their lives suck (very tasteful)  David Lynch - film director - American filmmaker, painter, musician, actor and photographer - best known for films such as Eraserhead, Blue Violet and Mulholland Drive. - born 20th January 1946 - three time Oscar  nominee
dove beauty campaign dove were criticised at their attempt at showing diversity as they used the same body type for all their models. people were content with the range of culture and race however not varying their models body types made the campaign seem fake and insensitive and that the images were unrealistic.  however, some people said that it made them feel better about themselves because now they had seen the truth that models photos are heavily edited. people also said that it had pure intentions and portrayed a good message. dove sales actually increased after the campaign. I think that the campaign attempted to create a meaningful ideology and there were positive aspects to it however I think they could improve their diversity and maybe think a little deeper about what they are showing to women around the world.

blurred lines music video analysis gender - negative representations of women - objects, seductive and dangerous  😎 mise en scene - bold, red lipstick connotes danger and seduction reinforces stereotypes of women being distracting and untrustworthy. 😎mise en scene of makeup reinforces stereotypes of women being obsessed with beauty and appearance.  😎mise en scene - revealing clothes reinforces the objective ideology of women created by men. life story 1. emotive language "I'm having nightmares again" 2. anecdote - used the same person throughout talking about a painful personal experience which allows the audience to sympathise with it. 3. relatable - a story that maybe some viewers can understand  4. realistic storyline - empathy  5. use of children - disruption of innocence, empathy and relatable  image 6 smoke - lower case , sans serif font which creates a more personal approach , direct address 'you' , using a young child to show disruption of innocence, child uses indirect mode of address to show that he is caught up in the smoke and it effecting him, has logo and contact info sells the ad, use of special effects and personification of the smoke hand draws the viewer in and persuades the viewer image 5 drive awareness - use of children + disruption of violence , indirect mode of address, mid shot to show bigger picture and create more sympathy, statistic at the bottom sells t...
Induction report task In an edition of GQ magazine from July 2016 masculinity is represented as toxic and there is an idealised version of masculinity. The use of the star vehicle (Dwayne Johnson’s) iconic bicep with its brahma bull tattoo reinforces the stereotype of men being hyper masculine, strong and muscular. For modern men, there is a societal expectation that they have to have it all: health, wealth and strength and the image of Johnson supports this as he epitomizes all three. The very essence of men’s lifestyle magazines is consumerism and so the images and cover lines will always seek to support this, informing men of what they supposedly need. One of the cover lines reads ‘man up! How to be a man in 2016’ which suggests that men are expected to act and look in a certain way. The star vehicle uses a direct mode of address. This is a common convention of magazines and helps to add a more personal approach. The intensity of his stare and the lack of a smile suggests how s...
