name - Saga Norén

role - introduced as a member of the Malmö County Police Department in the first episode of the series. lead homicide detective in Malmö. has knowledge in forensic pathology.

type of investigator - hardcore investigator 

methods / personality - Saga was written to be a woman completely lacking in social skills. she is perceived to have Asperger’s Syndrome due to her emotionally detached tendencies and perceptions of problems in the world around her. minimal use of makeup, leather trousers, olive green military coat. blunt, nearly always telling the truth even if it risks hurting her or others. unintentionally rude or insensitive. direct and logical. finds it hard to empathise but not malicious (AS?)  expresses emotions differently. strict adherence to rules, greatly devoted to her job. doesn’t like physical contact retreats away from strangers or ‘outsiders’.

history/childhood/background - sister Jennifer committed suicide at age 14. in series 3 she is informed that her father is on his deathbed by her mother. when young her and her sister Jennifer always got sick because of her mothers FDIA. she had her mother and father jailed on false sexual assault charges to get them away from her sister.

important plot points from series 1

body found on Øresund bridge which connects Copenhagen and Malmö (the border) so investigation falls under both police force. body is not one corpse but two halves of two different women. upper half belongs to Swedish politician, bottom half belongs to Danish prostitute.

compare how audiences are positioned by the representations in the save the children advertisement and the water-aid advertisement  in the save the children advertisement children are represented as vulnerable and a message of their innocence is strongly put across as the young child in the advertisement is shown mostly in a negative  light, especially towards the end of the ad to really emphasise her innocence as a young child. similarly, the children in the water-aid ad are represented as innocent however with a more optimistic, peaceful approach. water-aid creates sympathy in an alternative way to the save the children advertisement. both advertisements are attempting to appeal to a western, middle class older generation as that is where the money is at. save the children attempt to do this by guilt tripping the audience. the advertisement is set in the uk, intending to hit home for the viewers and allowing the audience to empathise with the child and put themselve...
